Karakovan honey is a distinctive type of comb honey in which the bees build the comb from their own beeswax without being given a pre-made wax foundation sheet. The honey remains inside the bee-built comb rather than being extracted from it and sold as liquid honey. This method of comb formation is one of the defining differences between Karakovan honey and comb honey produced on supplied wax foundation.
